Happy Mommy’s Day : On a Personal Level

This yearly holiday celebrates mothers on this day with flowers, candy, spa treats, and more. But what’s it really about? MOM. The person who raised you, took care of you and stood my you in your happiest and most darkest of times. The one who will be there for you no matter what, be in your defense but isn’t afraid to tell you like it is.
To me, my mom has been my rock. The one who has always believed in me and encouraged me to take that big leap and have faith in all I do. If not for her, I wouldn’t be able to have done many things like graduating college with honors, traveling, working crazy hours and covering events, or even maybe writing this blog.
Some parents do not understand the power of encouraging your children or female empowerment. As a young girl, my mom always encouraged me to be a strong, independent, successful woman. Everytime I do something or travel somewhere, believe it or not, I send my mom a picture or text first thing. It’s not a picture perfect relationship either. It’s more sisterly- we rarely see eye to eye, she’s too nice yet stubborn and I am strong tempered and strong willed and we don’t agree on some things but that’s just the way it is. And now that I’m a mom and she’s an awesome grandmother, I get it.
And if you’re wondering, no- my mom isn’t the fashionista type- she’s actually more of a “plain jane”. Little to no make up, flats to quarter inch heels the max, no glitz, glam, or sparkle. Surprised? But growing up, she always kept me all dolled up and looking my best. And though I’ve often begged her to do things like dye her hair or use a darker polish she’s taught me that beauty isn’t only on the outside, but skin and soul deep too. (so I gave up!)
So, with this post, I want to close off by saying a simple “thanks” to my mom and wishing her and all of the other fabulous moms out there a lovely mother’s day. Take this day to relax and be with your family.
